With harvest season in full swing, Local Store – the Elk Valley’s first shop offering year-round access to locally grown food – is hosting an online sale, enabling residents to get their hands on fall fresh produce.

“It’s harvest season and obviously local food is abundant, so we wanted to make sure that we could still allow people to get access to their local food,” said Robyn Peel, Local Store volunteer.

Focusing on online vending at the moment, the Local Store is hoping to host an online sale each month until their brick and mortar shop gets up and running.

“This is getting people used to the fact that they can get local food delivered to their door, which is a first for Fernie,” she said, adding that they received 30 orders within the first 24 hours of kicking off their harvest sale.

“There is a need out there, and we are really happy that people are supporting us and supporting their local farmers.”

All harvest orders must be placed online prior to Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. to be picked-up or delivered on Friday, Oct. 30.

Currently, eight vendors are registered to sell their goods through the Local Store, including Rebel BBQ, Mountain Range Foods, and Valley Vitals.

According to Peel, online vending will continue via the Local Store’s website even after their physical shop begins operating.
