On Saturday night Mary Giuliano enjoyed the great news with friends and family at their Fernie Home.
Mary Giuliano won by 42 votes over the incumbant Cindy Corrigan.
This was one of the most talked about mayoral races in Fernie history with the two candidates having history going back since they where children as well as controversy regarding Giuliano's Citizen of the Year award presented by Mayor Corrigan.
"I did not run because I thought Cindy wasn't doing a great job, I ran because I felt I have a lot to offer Fernie as their Mayor" says Giuliano.
The race was close right to the end which kept the excitement going till almost midnight on Saturday.
