Missing person located deceased, investigation continuing

Police confirm body found in a Fernie residence was that of 32-year old Jeremy Wellman.

The RCMP’s major crimes unit is investigating a suspicious death after a body was found in a Fernie residence.

On Dec. 5 shortly before 5:30 p.m., Elk Valley RCMP attended a home located in the 1100 block of 2nd Avenue in Fernie. Upon attendance, police located a deceased person and determined the death to be suspicious.

Today RCMP Sgt. Annie Linteau confirmed the body was that of 32-year old Jeremy Wellman.

Wellman was last seen at around 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 when he went to get gas. He was reported missing the next day.

Police are continuing their investigation and asking anyone who has any information about Wellman’s activities prior to Dec. 5 to contact them at (250) 425-6233 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
