Open burning restriction in Southeast Fire Centre

A fire ban on Category 2 open fires in the Southeast Fire Centre went into effect on Wednesday, June 24.

A fire ban on Category 2 open fires in the Southeast Fire Centre went into effect on Wednesday, June 24.

The ban prohibits activities such as burning of waste or other materials, stubble or grass fires of any size, the use of fireworks, sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages or any size or description, binary exploding targets and air curtain burners.

The ban is applicable in all BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands.

Exemptions to the ban include campfires a half-metre high by a half-metre wide or smaller as well as gas or propane cooking stoves.

Tickets of up to $345 may be written for non-compliance of the ban.

A Category 3 open burning prohibition that was put in place earlier on May 22 will remain in effect. Both bans will be implemented until the public is otherwise notified.
