Paint the rink pink

The Ghostriders’ Paint the Rink Pink campaign was an overwhelming success, raising $5,000 for Elk Valley cancer patients.

The Ghostriders’ Paint the Rink Pink campaign was an overwhelming success, raising $5,000 for Elk Valley cancer patients. The team sported special edition, pink jerseys throughout the month of October, and then auctioned them off to the public.

“The pinks jerseys were a huge success in bringing cancer awareness to all involved, the community, team members and our league,” said Barry Wolff, Head Coach. “As an organisation we are very proud of the way people stepped up and supported this cause. All the jerseys were sold and we hope that next year we can raise an even bigger dollar figure.”

The online bidding began as the campaign kicked off in October, and community members were able to put in competing bids right up until November 18. The highest bidder walked away with their jersey, as well as knowing they had contributed to their community.

“We will make two donations,” explained Wolff. “One to Brooke Malakoff, who is a long time volunteer for the Fernie Ghostriders who is currently in a battle with cancer. The other one will go to a foundation that is set up by the Moulton family for families who need financial help while facing costs with hospital bills and travel while getting cancer treatment.”

The Ghostriders are already on to their next fundraising project. In honour of Movember, team members are growing mustaches to help raise money for prostate cancer awareness. To support a rider and their mustache, go to www.fernieghostriders.com.
