Tuesday, August 9
• In Fernie at 5:43 a.m. a suspicious vehicle was reported parked at the Visitor’s Centre.
• In Baynes Lake at 9:43 a.m. a complainant called to report a hit and run that had taken place a week earlier. There was minor damage done to the complainant’s vehicle and it was thought that the vehicle that may have backed into it is green.
• In Fernie at 10:13 a.m. a blue Kona mountain bike was stolen from the 900 Block of 5th Avenue.
• In Sparwood at 12:22 p.m. a lost licence plate decal was reported.
• In Sparwood at 1:37 p.m. a licence plate from a commercial vehicle was reported lost.
• In Sparwood at 2:05 p.m. a lost licence plate from a boat trailer was reported.
• In Fernie at 2:08 p.m. there was a report of an individual who frequently drives without a driver’s licence.
• In Sparwood at 2:24 p.m. police were requested to assist with a dispute between neighbours.
• In Fernie at 2:59 p.m. there was a theft from a vehicle. The complainant reported that his wallet was stolen. It was left on the dash and the doors of the vehicle were not locked.
• In Sparwood at 3:21 p.m. a backpack containing tools, first aid and other items was found on a park bench.
• In Elkford at 4:48 p.m. police were called to assist the ambulance with a minor accident on a mine site.
• In Elko at 4:55 p.m. police attended to a wellbeing check. The complainant was concerned that he hadn’t heard from his sister in quite a while. Police located the sister and all was fine. The brother had written down his sister’s phone number wrong.
• In Fernie at 11:44 p.m. two suspicious males in a van were reported.
Wednesday, August 10
• In Fernie at 1 a.m. a complainant reported that four males were having a heated argument and he was concerned that it might have turned into a physical fight. Police attended and the four subjects were gone.
• In Sparwood at 8:28 a.m. a lost wallet was reported.
• In Fernie at 9:41 a.m. a lost wallet was reported.
• In Fernie at 9:44 a.m. an abandoned vehicle was reported.
• In Fernie at 10:13 a.m. a complainant reported damage to his driveway from the end of July.
• In Sparwood at 10:26 a.m. a wallet was turned in to the detachment.
• In Sparwood at 10:28 a.m. a 911 call was abandoned. Police traced the call to a man at work. It was an accidental pocket dial.
• In Fernie at 10:59 a.m. a complainant reported that he had lent his friend his vehicle and hadn’t seen him in approximately two months.
• In Fernie at 1:42 p.m. a passport was reported lost.
• In Sparwood at 2:41 p.m. police were requested by the Crowsnest Pass detachment to serve a subpoena on a local individual.
• In Fernie at 5:38 p.m. a possibly intoxicated driver was reported. The complainant reported the vehicle was passing unsafely and was not able to maintain the lane. Police located the vehicle and a female driver was found to be sober but very emotional after recent relationship issues. Police advised the woman to park and compose herself before she carried on her way to Alberta.
• In Sparwood at 6:55 p.m. police received a request to assist the ambulance with a patient.
• In Sparwood at 9:45 p.m. an erratic driver was reported. There was no licence plate number obtained and patrols were negative.
• In Sparwood at 10:32 p.m. an assault occurred between two individuals who were known to each other.
Thursday, August 11
• In Elkford at 3:19 a.m. there was a domestic dispute.
• In Fernie at 4:31 a.m. a suspicious vehicle was reported.
• In Sparwood at 4:44 a.m. a complainant reported that people were taking pieces of his fence and burning them. Police arrived and spoke with the individuals and one suspect agreed to pay for the damaged fence. This incident is still under investigation.
• In Sparwood at 9:24 a.m. a lost licence plate decal was reported.
• In Fernie at 10:28 a.m. a complainant was concerned over vehicles heading down to the Elk River. The complainant noticed five or six coolers filled with beer and was concerned that when they came off the river there would be impaired drivers.
• In Sparwood at 11:15 a.m. there was a false residential alarm.
• In Sparwood at 11:19 a.m. a lost licence plate was reported.
• In Sparwood at 11:42 a.m. a wallet was turned in to the detachment.
• In Fernie at 11:47 a.m. a well being check was done. The individual in question was safe and sound.
• In Sparwood at 12:58 p.m. six youths were reported to be
shooting a bow and arrow at a real estate sign. Police attended and found the youth with a low powered bow and arrow. Police spoke with the youth about his actions and possible consequences. The youth was apologetic.
• In Sparwood at 5:11 p.m. an erratic driver in a white and blue motor home with Alberta plates was reported to be weaving in his lane. Patrols were made and the vehicle was not located.
• In Fernie at 10:20 p.m. two males were reported to be fighting in a liquor establishment.
Friday, August 12
• In Elkford at 2:01 a.m. a complainant reported that shots were fired. Police attended and could not locate a suspect.
• In Fernie at 8:42 a.m. a complainant reported that a subject was parked and sleeping in his car. Police attended to find the vehicle safely parked off the road. The driver explained all was fine and he was simply taking a nap.
• In Fernie at 8:50 a.m. a lady reported that she had just arrived home and found the door to her residence unlocked and open. Inside the doorway was a business card for an alarm company. Police called the salesman for the alarm company who explained that they frequently left their business cards in door jams but never opened doors. Police suspected that when the woman left, the door must have been left slightly ajar.
• In Fernie at 10:12 a.m. there was a report of graffiti on the exterior walls of a school.
• In Sparwood at 12:20 p.m. a complainant reported that there were frequently intoxicated drivers leaving a liquor establishment and requested that police regularly patrol this area.
• In Sparwood at 3:12 p.m. police received a request to serve an arrest warrant on a local individual.
• In Sparwood at 7:07 p.m. there was a grass fire that was caused by arson. This incident is still under investigation.
• In Sparwood at 8:20 p.m. a vehicle was stopped for speeding. The driver was charged and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Saturday, August 13
• In Fernie at 12:19 a.m. there was a loud party on Beach Avenue.
• In Sparwood at 10:59 a.m. a lime green BMX bike was stolen. The bike was a recent gift for a little boy’s birthday.
• In Elko at 12:38 p.m. there was a motor vehicle accident. The driver lost control and sustained no injuries. There was excessive damage to the vehicle and the driver was charged for failing to keep right.
• In Fernie at 2:01 p.m. a complainant reported that a dog was left in a vehicle with the windows rolled up. Police attended the scene and the dog was not in the vehicle but in a business with it’s owner. The dog showed no signs of distress.
• In Sparwood at 2:04 p.m. there was an accident involving two vehicles. There were no injuries but one of the vehicles was blocking traffic.
• In Fernie at 11:46 p.m. there was a loud party on Mt. Minton.
Sunday, August 14
• In Elkford at 12:14 a.m. there was a single vehicle rollover. There were no injuries reported.
• In Fernie at 4:21 a.m. there was a noisy party on 11th Avenue.
• In Sparwood at 10:41 a.m. a break and enter occurred to the Sparwood Visitor Centre. Paper was thrown around the building. This incident is still under investigation.
• In Fernie at 1:54 p.m. a bag with hiking equipment was found.
• In Sparwood at 2 p.m. a break and enter occurred to the Hollywood Movie Store in Greenwood Mall. Access was gained through a vacant store and a hole was cut through the wall of the video store. The Forensic Identification Team from Cranbrook attended the scene and surveillance video is being looked at. This incident is still under investigation.
• In Elko at 2:21 p.m. a vehicle was stopped for speeding excessively. The driver was charged and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
• In Grasmere at 4 p.m. a vehicle was stopped for speeding excessively. The driver was charged and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
• In Fernie at 10:51 p.m. an individual called 911 to order pizza. Police attended to the location of the call and the individual explained that they had meant to call 411. There were no other issues at the residence.
Monday, August 15
• In Fernie at 7:57 a.m. there was a report of vandalism to a vehicle. All the windows in a motor home had been smashed out.
• In Sparwood at 8:45 a.m. four gunshots were heard.
• In Fernie at 9:14 a.m. drug information was received.
• In Fernie at 11:25 a.m. there was an accident involving two vehicles. There was minor damage and no injuries.
• In Sparwood at 2:43 p.m. a concerned caller reported that there were four children playing with an axe in the driveway of a residence. Police attended and arrived at the scene while the children were still playing with the axe. Police spoke with the parents and the Ministry of Children and Families was notified. All of the children were under age 10.
