East Kootenay area fire departments now have access to unique life-saving tools for pets involved in house fires thanks to a generous donation by a Cranbrook based company.

One of the Family Pet Care 1996 Inc. has donated 18 pet rescue kits complete with oxygen masks to fire departments across the East Kootenay and one in Castlegar. The rescue kits can be easily carried on the fire trucks and provide firefighters with the ability to provide oxygen to pets ranging from guinea pigs and birds to cats and dogs. The Marasco family was inspired to donate the kits after seeing a story in Ontario and was assisted by members of the Cranbrook Fire Department to coordinate getting the kits to the East Kootenay region.
