The Salvation Army thrift stores’ official grand opening was cancelled today, pending building inspections.
The shop recently underwent a major renovation, taking over additional space in its Second Ave. location.
“We could be shut down for a couple of weeks until we get those inspections done,” Major James Haggland with the Salvation Army said.
“It’s not the city’s fault, the break down was on our side.”
Although the thrift shop did open its doors today for a two-hour soft opening, the new building must undergo several inspections, including a fire inspection, a plumbing inspection and an electrical inspection, before officially opening its doors to the public.
But Haggland is confident the inspections will pass without any issues.
“We’re going to pass it all,” he said.
“Work has been done and it’s been done well.”
Mayor Mary Giuliano was invited to join in the stores’ official opening, and asked to cut the opening ribbon and deliver a speech, however those plans were cancelled.
Haggland said as soon as they get the go ahead from officials, they’ll open the doors to the public and reschedule their official opening with the mayor.
“I don’t want the store closed one day longer than it has to be.”
