Santa Claus will be making an early visit to Sparwood on December 17.

Mayor David Wilks confirmed that negotiations with the jolly man had seen Sparwood successfully secure an afternoon of his time to tour the town and hand out candy.

”Santa will be there handing out goodies. We’ve been in negotiations with the North pole … its a busy time of year but he made time.”

Where the reindeer will be parked for Santa’s visit will remain a state secret, however.

Santa’s tour will start at around 5pm on December 17 from Firehall #1 for a tour of many (but not all) streets around Sparwood neighbourhoods including Lower Sparwood, Sparwood Heights, the downtown area and Spardell Mobile Home Park.

Wilks said he expected the tour to take between two and a half to three hours, and that the goodies being handed out would be full-size candy bars.
