Environment Canada is advising the Elk Valley that a moisture-laden system moving in from the Pacific Ocean this weekend will bring a wintry mix to the western interior, spreading across the rest of the central and southern interior.

These conditions are forecasted to reach the central and southern interior throughout the day on Sunday.

Significant snowfall is expected to hit the valley as a result of the clash of a warm and moist system coupled with the entrenched Arctic air. Freezing rain in the southern regions is also in the weekend forecast.

The public is being advised to monitor future forecasts as warnings may be extended. Any potential warnings will be issued as the exact location and snowfall amounts are determined.
