Sparwood Council approved in principle the Sparwood Lion’s Club proposal to construct a community gazebo/event shelter.

The gazebo will be located on the Sparwood Leisure Centre grounds adjacent to the existing track and sports field. Building of the project will rely on the condition that the structure is of suitable size and the plans and the location are approved through Council prior to construction.

“I just think it would be great,” said Councillor Sharon Fraser. “It would add to Coal Miner Days, people could have weddings here. It’s wonderful of the Lion’s Club.”

In a letter addressed to Council, the Lions Club said that the addition of a gazebo/event shelter on the Leisure Centre grounds would also enhance the grounds and assist in the further beautification of the area.

The gazebo would be located in the Lions Park near the newly constructed spray park and the existing track and sports field. Currently the Lions Club is asking for an allocation of land to construct the gazebo/event shelter but is not asking the District for any funding.
