The District of Sparwood will be holding a community wide clean-up day on April 26. The initiative will see the District providing garbage bags, gloves and other necessary supplies to residents, schools, and any organizations or businesses willing to volunteer to clean up Sparwood's streets and public parks.

"We're trying to make this easy for folks so they just need to pick up the garbage," said Nelson Wight, Director of Planning. "I'm working with the director of public works on garbage pickup and how we can do that. I'll be working with specific groups as well; maybe even businesses down Douglas Fir or businesses in other locations around the community too."

The community clean-up will aim to achieve a number of objectives, including beautification, building community and promoting civic pride, promoting the conservation and preservation of the natural environment, and strengthening connections with community partners, such as School District 5, local businesses, and Sparwood residents.

The clean-up has been set to take place during Ptich-In-Week (April 20 - 26) and will follow additional clean-up activities planned by School District 5 earlier in the week. It will also coincide with other community events, such as the East Kootenay Credit Union Community Garage Sale and Lilac Terrace barbecue.
