Train Derailment near Sparwood

CP Rail has confirmed a freight train derailment three kilometres from Sparwood

A freight train carrying coal derailed three kilometres from Sparwood at approximately 3:30 pm on Friday July 31.

According to CP Rail Representative Salem Woodrow there were no injuries to the crew and there are no public safety issues.

“CP's emergency protocols were immediately enacted and all safety precautions and measures are being taken as our crews respond to the situation,” said Woodrow. “All necessary resources have been deployed.

“The incident will receive a full investigation,” he said.
