The Triangle Women’s Institute (TWI) and painter Keltie Pion recently raised $750 for Angel Flight East Kootenay.
A fundraiser was held for the air shuttle service, which transports people from the East Kootenays to Kelowna for advanced medical treatment, on Oct. 20 at the Grasmere Pioneer Hall, according to a release from TWI.
It was sponsored and organized by the TWI and facilitated by Pion of The Tipsy Canvas South Country. The fundraiser took the form of a painting class, put on by Pion.
“There were 22 painters who turned out for the evening and fun was had by all,” the release says, adding that some who could not attend sent donations.
“Keltie donated her time and all but expenses for her class and a grand total of $751 was realized from the event.”
In August, Pion held a painting class for TWI members, and she suggested doing the same again as a fundraiser. TWI ‘jumped’ on the suggestion and it was decided to do one for Angel Flight.
“TWI has a list of organizations it passionately supports on a yearly basis and a few years ago it placed Angel Flight as one of its main recipients.
“What a blessing to residents of the Kootenays to have a service such as that which Angel Flight offers.
“Countless people are forced into a long, tedious eight to 10 hour drive to Kelowna for medical treatments and appointments and many more than once during a course of necessary treatments. In the last few years, Angel Flight has stepped up by offering flights, free of charge.
“TWI, on behalf of the residents of the South Country, thank you Angel Flight for your service to the people of our area!!”
