Winter has arrived early in the Elk Valley with up to 30cm of snow forecast over the next 24 hours.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the region, predicting between 20 to 30cm of snow by tonight as arctic air arriving from the east combines with an approaching low pressure system.

The snowfall is expected to cease overnight as the low moves eastward.

Mainroads crews have been applying anti-icing chemicals and performing snow removal operations, which will continue on all highways until conditions return to normal.

Motorists are encouraged to report any issues to Mainroads’ 24-hour communications and dispatch office via 1-800-665-4929.

They are also advised to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
