City of Fernie: Residents should start gearing up for the next local general election.

Residents should start gearing up for the next local general election, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, November 15.

Resident electors over the age of 18, who have lived in British Columbia (B.C.) for a minimum of six months prior to voting and have been a city or district resident for 30 days or more prior to voting may register to vote.

Non-resident electors must be registered as a property owner in their given city or district for 30 days or more prior to voting. Only one person per property may vote, even if there are multiple owners of that property.

Across the City of Fernie, the District of Sparwood and the District of Elkford on Wednesday, November 5 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., advanced voting will take place.

In the City of Fernie, at the Senior Centre located at 562 3rd Ave., in the District of Sparwood at the Sparwood Senior Citizen’s Drop-In Centre at 101 4th Ave. and in the District of Elkford at the District of Elkford Municipal Office at 816 Michel Rd.

Additional advanced voting opportunities in the City of Fernie include Wednesday, November 12, in the District of Sparwood on Monday, November 10 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Friday, November 14 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the same locations mentioned. The District of Elkford’s final advanced voting opportunity will be Monday, November 10 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

On Election Day, City of Fernie residents can vote at the Senior Centre located at 562-3rd Ave.

District of Sparwood residents will head to the Henry Volkmann Memorial Complex at 367 Pine Ave.

In the District of Elkford, voters will meet at the Elkford Community Conference Centre located at 750 Fording Dr.

For the RDEK Electoral Area A and Area A residents voting in the School District 5 elections, advanced voting opportunities will be held on Wednesday, November 5 and Thursday, November 13 at Hosmer Community Hall. Advanced voting for Area B, if an election were to occur, will be held at the Sandcreek Community Hall in Jaffray and the Elko Community Hall at the same dates and times as Area A.

On Election Day, voting for the Area A Director and School District 5 elections will take place at the Fernie Family Centre, the Causeway Bay Hotel in the Sparwood and the Hosmer Community Hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Elko, the Elko Fire Service vote will be held at Elko Community Hall.

If there is an election in Area B, general voting will be held at the Sandcreek Community Hall in Jaffray as well as the Baynes Lake Community Hall, the Grasmere Pioneer Hall and the Elko Community Hall.
