Hazardous winter conditions are expected for the Elk Valley prior to the weekend as a Pacific frontal system moves across the province dumping 10 to 20 centimetres of snow across the valley and up to 30 centimetres in Fernie.

The storm is expected to begin this afternoon and intensify overnight and into Friday.

According to Environment Canada, residents should consider postponing non-essential travel until the snow eases Friday evening.
