According to Environment Canada, 30 to 40 centimeters of snow is expected to fall tonight over West Kootenay this evening.
The weather event is being caused by an intense pacific warm front, which spread over the southwest interior this afternoon.
Snow will fall gradually until the evening, at which point it is expected to intensify through the night.
Hazardous winter conditions are expected. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult.
