Winter wonderland in the Elk Valley
Laszlo Gyorki showing off how high the snow was piled in Fernie. (Jikke Gyorki, Fernie) Like it does every year, there was a lot of snow in Elkford. (Jason Meldrum, Elkford) Who doesn’t love a freshly-shovelled pathway? This one in Sparwood has us jealous (Christine Lynn DeGagne, Sparwood) Or what about an entire freshly-shovelled yard? (Emily Coates, Fernie) Young Fleury here loves the snow! (Jason Meldrum, Elkford) The snow has to go somewhere! (Karla McKie, Sparwood) It was piled up to the stop signs in Sparwood as well. (Lily Bowers, Sparwood) No matter how much snow, the burning coal seam above Sparwood is undeterred by cold weather. (Lily Bowers, Sparwood) There’s a greenhouse under there! (Madeleine Bragg, Fernie) Half-lots make for full-lots of trouble, finding where to put all the snow. (Victoria Weld, Fernie) It was mighty snowy all up the valley. (Sherry Benko, Sparwood) Images from around town show a winter wonderland. (Sherry Benko, Sparwood) The snowy conditions made for a good excuse to get outside and enjoy the hills in Sparwood! (Sherry Benko, Sparwood)
If you looked out a window recently, there’s a lot of snow outside.
Elk Valley residents have spent a lot of 2022 shovelling snow so far, with 604cm falling so far at the Fernie Alpine Resort, and plenty more down on the valley floor from Fernie to Elkford.
It’s raining, so here’s to the memory of fluffy snow which was easy to shovel.
Take care walking around town, its an ice rink out there!
