ADRIAN J.F. KENNEDY

October 27, 2016

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Adrian J.F. Kennedy, age 84. Adrian died peacefully at home in Edmonton beside Anne, his beloved wife of 56 years. Born in Galway, Ireland, Adrian emigrated to Canada in 1955. At heart a journalist, Adrian’s ambition led him to Fernie, B.C. where he was owner, publisher and editor of the Fernie Free Press from 1963-1975. Welcoming a challenge, he topped the polls in his run for alderman on Fernie City Council, was founding Director of the East Kootenay Tourist Association and a long-serving member of the Chamber of Commerce. Adrian capped his career as Chair of the Journalism Department at Grant MacEwan Community College in Edmonton.

Adrian was an avid tennis player and particularly enjoyed mixed doubles with Anne. He spoke Gaelic, French and Latin. A notoriously fast walker, his children carry on the tradition.

Adrian loved Anne, his kids Shelagh (Wade) and Mike (Deb) Kennedy and his four grandchildren. His quick wit, hearty laugh, spirited writing, and love of news and a good debate will be dearly missed.

In memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assocation.
