Agnes Jane (Shelia) Webster died peacefully in her sleep on January 14, 2023. She was born on October 24, 1924, in Fernie. Shelia was predeceased in 2011 by her husband Arnold of 64 years, and her parents and her 13 siblings and their respective spouses. She is survived by her three children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Shelia was a proud life-long resident of Fernie who particularly appreciated the natural beauty of the area. She was an avid golfer, golfing well into her eighties, and spending as much time enjoying the mountain views as she did the game. Shelia also took up downhill skiing in her fifties until a skiing related fracture redirected her to cross country skiing, again on the golf course where she continued to enjoy the winter scenes of Fernie and area. Shelia was an enthusiastic traveller, travelling extensively in North America and Europe. At the age of 89, she made her last trip to Europe and in that same year went parasailing in the Caribbean.
Shelia and her family were very appreciative of the kindness shown her by the caregivers at Rocky Mountain Village. A final thank-you is expressed. Although Shelia spoke truth to power, she never enjoyed being the centre of attention and, at her request, a private memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
