It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred Colley on August 5, 2016. Alf was born on November 7, 1937 in Doncaster, England to Arthur & Margret Colley.
Alfred had over 10 years of military service in the British Armed Forces. He then met Vera Savage in 1956, and three years later they were married. In 1974, Alf and the rest of the family packed their bags and emigrated to Canada where he was promised higher wages and better working conditions with Kaiser Resources. Alf and the family lived in Fernie for most of his life. Alf & Vera moved to Haida Gwaii after falling in love with the island when their son Nigel was posted there. After leaving the island, Alf & Vera lived with Nigel & Jo-anne, and then once again in Fernie with Glynn, and April and Wayne. They finally decided to settle down in Creston as they loved the warm weather and being close to family once again. They lived in Creston up until his passing.
Alf is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Vera Colley; his children: April Atherton (Wayne), Glynn Colley, Nigel Colley (Jo-Anne), & Anthony Colley (Lesley); his grandchildren: Cera Atherton, Christopher Atherton (Casey), Jenn Warlow (Mike), Tony Barry, Steven Colley (Jenna-Lynn), Michael Colley (Victoria), & Krissy Colley (Shawna), 8 great grandchildren, his brother Michael Colley, and many nieces & nephews.
Alf will be remembered as a funny, caring and loving gentleman who cared deeply for his friends and family. One of his pastimes was to drive while listen to music. Alf also loved to go camping with friends and his family as well as traveling. He was proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and would tell everyone how proud he was.
Both the Colley & Atherton families would like to thank everyone who has reached out in the past few weeks.
