Supported by her loving family and caregivers, Alice passed peacefully from this life the morning of Tuesday, June 6, 2017 following

a gradual decline in health. Alice was born in Medicine Hat, AB on May 15, 1925 to Russian immigrants Reinhold and Charlotte (Gebhardt) Gomke.

Alice is survived by her daughter Judy (Ron) Linkert of Sparwood,

2 grandchildren: Greg (Kim) Linkert of Airdrie, AB and Kim (Brian) Gorman of Sparwood, BC, 3 great grandchildren: Bryce (Trista), Nigel and Bryan, and her first great great grandchild Emma, as well as 3 sisters: Esther Roth, Helen Turner and Evelyn (Bill) Trieber and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Albert, brothers Edwin (Clara) Gomke, Clarence Gomke, and William Gomke, sisters Hilda (Jack) Fischer, Margaret March, and Olga (Albert) Roth, and brothers-in-law Emmanuel Roth and Joshua Turner.

Alice married Albert Mauch on April 3, 1945. Their only child, daughter Judy, was born in September 1947. The family lived in Medicine Hat until 1958 when they moved to Chilliwack where Alice worked at Fraser Foods until 1966. They moved for a short time to Summerland, BC and owned a bowling alley before moving to Sparwood in 1969 where Alice worked in the housing department for Kaiser Resources. In 1981, Albert and Alice retired to Creston where she remained active with the seniors, the Lutheran church, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Alice returned to Sparwood in 2006 to be closer to family. Still very active, Alice contributed time to the Sparwood Lion’s Club, helping with their weekly Bingo games, she enjoyed fishing with Greg at Kootenay Lake, baking and crafts with Kim and her great grandson Bryan, and tending to her meticulous gardens, which included her beautiful flowers. She will be forever loved and never forgotten.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the MS Society.
