It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and sister, Anita Jean Mitchell.
Anita was born in Trail, B.C. on February 16, 1942 to Ralph and Mildred Rogers. She passed away peacefully on June 6, 2020 surrounded by family at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie.
She married the love of her life, Bob Mitchell, on February 14, 1961. They lived in a few different places before settling in Fernie in 1969. On December 20, 1961 they welcomed their first child Rick, while living in Kaslo, B.C. August 25, 1965 was the day they welcomed their second child, Kelly, in Kamloops, B.C.
Anita had several jobs as a young adult, hairdressing, working for an electric company and tree-planting to name a few. After moving to Fernie, she started working at the hospital where she stayed for 35 years before retiring. While working there she also helped Bob build a very successful business, Bob Mitchell Excavating Ltd., that is still going strong today. Quite the legacy for their children and grandchildren (great and great-great).
Anita's hobbies included spending time with her family. She loved her grandchildren so much she would take every chance she could to be with them; even going to see a Broadway show in New York City with Lacey.
Most things she did, she did with Bob, from camping, going south for the winter, early morning Yahtzee games that she loved to win, side by side rides and spending time in the casino. She also enjoyed the Fernie Seniors Center and all the friends she made during her time there between painting, dominoes, canasta, and special events.
Anita enjoyed going to the stock car races to watch Rick, Cliff, Colby and Treysen race... patiently awaiting that first Main event win so that Rick would shave.
In her younger days, Anita was an avid snow skier and water skier.
Anita is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Bob, her son Rick (Jeri) Mitchell and her daughter Kelly (Terry) White, grandchildren Lacey Mitchell, Cliff (Sara) Mitchell and Colby White, her great-grandchildren: Haylie, Taylor, Treysen, Chloe and Isabelle, and her great-great-granddaughter RaeLynn. She is also survived by sisters Gail (Ed) Michayluk and Elaine Rogers, her brother Gordon (Kathrine) Rogers, her sister-in-law Heather Staples and her brother-in-law Tom Mitchell as well as many wonderful friends.
Anita was predeceased by parents Ralph and Mildred Rogers, her father-in-law Clarence Mitchell, and her mother-in-law Ilene Mitchell.
We are planning to have a Celebration of Life once things let up a bit and everybody can come!! How could we pick only 50 out of all the people that love her?
