BERNARDO:

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ann (Chala) Bernardo on May 3 at the Elk Valley hospital at 90 years of age.

Ann is lovingly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Aunty Huna. Ann was the last of 15 siblings of the Jarina/Chala family of Natal, B.C.

Born on October 7, 1926 to Stephen and Mary Chala, Ann grew up in Natal, attended the Michel-Natal Central School and worked in the area, first at Trites Woods General Store then later as housekeeper, supervisor for Michel Hospital then Sparwood General Hospital where she enjoyed her occupation and acquired lasting friendships.

In 1948 Ann married her soul mate Alfio Bernardo. They had two daughters. Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family and is lovingly remembered by Maureen (Robert) Martin of Chilliwack, Debra Gardner of Kelowna, two grandchildren Kristy Rogge of Maple Ridge, Kent (Jana) Martin of Calgary and four great grandchildren, Connor and Linden Martin of Calgary and Nathan and Sarah of Maple Ridge, her sister-in-law Emma Chala of Sparwood as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Predeceased by parents Steve and Mary, husband Alfio, sisters Theresa, Helen, Cil, Mil, Mary, Marg, Sophie, Sue and Clara, brothers Steve, Andrew, Paul, John and Joe.

Funeral services were held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Mom will be forever in our hearts.
