On Sunday, December 29, 2019, with loved ones at his bedside, August "Shorty" Mercereau was summoned to his eternal rest at the age of 90 years.
August Pierre Aimee Mercereau was born in Duck Lake, SK on May 6, 1929 to parents Philogene and Elise. An avid sports enthusiast, Shorty enjoyed curling, billiards, golfing and camping .... But his greatest passion was baseball, particularly the Toronto Blue Jays. One of the greatest highlights of his life was 5 years ago when his children took him to Toronto so he could watch them play live!
Shorty Mercereau will never be forgotten, as long as his memory is kept alive. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Shorty has blessed his family with a multitude of precious memories that will be shared for many, many years to come!
Shorty is survived by Bunny, his loving wife of 63 years, 11 months, and 24 days; his children: Danny (Velma), Lorne (Noreen), Lynn (Bill) Cornell, and Mickey (Frank) Martin; 7 grandchildren: Lindsey, Justine, Susan, Curtis, Randi, Nathan and Jade; 6 great grandchildren: Audrey, Emmett, Nash, Nixon, Raya and Natalie, and his brother Denisé Delisle and extended families.
The Mercereau family sends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Todd Loewen, the caregivers, nurses and staff at the Elk Valley Hospital and Rocky Mountain Village, and the residents and staff at Lilac Terrace for the excellent care Shorty received, and for your understanding, support and compassion.
