June 21, 1934 - July 24, 2021
Bernie Norman Kabel was born into a large family, blessing his parents Cora and Percy with his presence on June 21, 1934, and left us at the age of 87 years on July 24, 2021.
Bernie was a gentle, loving soul as a son, brother, uncle, great uncle, great great uncle, and a friend. His personality was infectious. He was an avid crib player and never missed games at the Sparwood Seniors Center, always up to a game of crib or rummy with friends and family. Bernie kept the grounds tidy around the villa year-round, and made many trips to Overwaitea for his neighbors. He loved picking berries, spending time at Baynes Lake, and walking his dog Trixie. Bernie had a special love for his nephew Jack and niece Charmaine as they were his biggest supports and ensured he always had what he needed.
Bernie grew up in McCreary, MB and enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces. While in the military he travelled the world as a peacekeeper. He retired in 1978, returning to McCreary where he lived until 1985 when he moved to Sparwood, BC after visiting for Christmas. He lived there until he moved to Rocky Mountain Village in 2009 where he stayed until his passing. Of his numerous siblings, Bernie is survived by his twin sister Bernice, and his sister Shirley.
We would like to thank the staff at Rocky Mountain Village for caring for Bernie the last 12 years. Their love for him was obvious as they all said their goodbyes during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sparwood Seniors Center where Bernie played cards and made numerous friendships.
