Betty Cole, age 86 yrs. passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home in Surrey, B.C. We take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her late husband of 43 years, Harry Cole. She was born March 15th, 1930 in Princeton, B.C., and was loved by her adoptive parents, John and Emma Carlson. Betty married Harry and lived in Michel, B.C. where they welcomed their daughter, Margaret. Due to Harry’s occupation in construction, they called many B.C. towns home. They lived in Michel, Princeton, Copper Mountain, Greenwood, Grand Forks, Sicamous, and Tappen. While living in Salmon Arm and Nelson, Betty worked at the Co-op and Overwaitea. Harry and Betty lived in Sparwood for 23 years where Betty worked for Sears and opened a hairdressing salon. Harry and Betty were also owner/operators of Spar-Del Trailer Court and the Elk Valley Turbo Gas and Confectionary as well as the Summit Inn Hotel, in the Crowsnest Pass. Betty’s retirement years brought her to Surrey, B.C., to be closer to her immediate family. She was recently recognized and awarded for 20 yrs. of service as a Director of her Condo Association. She received numerous awards from the Lions Club for her charity work. Betty enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafts, doing jig-saw puzzles with her daughter, and spending time with her family. She made friends easily, was a good listener and will be missed for her strong wit, warmth and “tell it like it is nature”. Betty was predeceased by her husband Harry and sister Mona Anderson (Carlson). She is survived by her brother Wayne (Evelyn), daughter Margaret (Don), grandchildren Patrick (Sandra) and Katherine (Rob), as well as many nieces and nephews. A ceremony will be held in Sparwood, B.C. at the Rivercrest Cemetery. Details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Betty’s name may be made to your favourite charity.
