It is with great sadness that we announce the death of 53 year old Bill Matters. Surrounded by loved ones, Bill passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Friday, October 7, 2011 following a heroic two year battle with cancer.

Bill will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Tracy, his daughters Cassandra and Michaela Matters, stepchildren Alicia (Brent), Caitlin (Ross) and Brayden Phillips, and his grandson Riley. Also left to mourn his passing are his parents Jim and Lois Matters, mother and father-in-law Norma and Bob Ferguson, brothers Bob (Lyne), Barry (Andrea) and Bernie (Cheryl), 7 nieces and nephews: Chantal (Chad), Isabel, Emma, Megan (Derek), Allie, Rachal and Dalton and his sister-in-law Missy (Trevor) as well as many other extended family members and wonderful friends.

One of four boys, Bill was born in Grostenquin, France on March 13, 1958. A sports fanatic, Bill loved hockey, baseball, lacrosse and darts. He also enjoyed sharing his passion with kids and throughout the years coached Pre-Novice, Novice and Atoms hockey as well as many baseball teams. He spent 22 years logging for MBM Contracting before starting his own business, Windtech Turbines in March 2009. Bill was a very intelligent, kind and hardworking man who always put his family first and foremost in his life. He loved camping and anything to do with the outdoors, was a gifted woodworker and also enjoyed challenging puzzles. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Bill will be forever remembered for his loving devotion and his quick wit.

The Memorial Service took place at the Fernie Community Center on Thursday, October 13th. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in your area. Arrangements entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Services Ltd.
