October 22, 1990 - January 7, 2022
A Star has ascended to the sky and will forever shine on her family and friends.
Cayla Ashely May Mills passed away on Friday January 7, 2022 in Cranbrook B.C., and joins her brother Catlyn Lincon Docherty; her mother in-law Sue Elaine Hickey, and as Cayla's daughter Caydence reminded her Nana, "and don't forget about Bootsy" (the cat), in the sky to watch over us all.
Cayla was born in Red Deer, Alberta on October 22, 1990, at 8:38 a.m., and moved to the Elk Valley with her mom Kate Martin (nee Mills) in 1996. Sparwood became forever home, as this is where Kate, Cayla and Catlyn found Jay Martin and started the beginning of their new family. Cayla grew up in the Valley and attended Sparwood Secondary School; she later went on to attend Selkirk College in 2011 to train as a professional hairstylist.
Cayla loved to "bush cruise" with her dad Jay Martin, "loved meat snacks" and was happiest when she was adventuring with her family and friends. Cayla will be remembered as an outgoing, outdoorsy, "Girl Mom" who liked to spend time going to the lake, paddle boarding, and attending Comic Con with her mom, and who "loved all things Summer."
Cayla brought an abundance of joy to her family with the birth of her beautiful daughters Sierra and later, Caydence who continue on as a shining light, that family and friends had in Cayla.
Our Star is lovingly remembered by her parents, Jay and Kate Martin; her father Rick Docherty; her nephew (Catlyn's son) Jaxxson Docherty; half-brother Rhys Nygaard; her father in-law Dean Hickey; Tyler Hickey (Sierra and Caydence's dad), and by her grandparents Jack and Simon Martin and her grandmother Brenda Docherty. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and extended family: Hartly Wadham and Christina Degagne (Grant), and her cousins Hazel Grant, Emily Grant, Makale Wadham and Makenzy Wadham; Shelly Cromwell; Shawn and Sherri O'Connor; Misty, Dominic and Zack Tyler; Lance Marriott and his family, and Stephanie Little and her family. Cayla is also warmly remembered by numerous friends, Dalton Musil and Devon Musil; Sarah Doratty and her children Jackson, Kasey and Bailey; Jyl Beean and many, many other special people.
Watch and shine over us all our brilliant, beautiful Star, Cayla!
