Our hearts have been shattered and life as we know it was forever changed on Thursday, February 14, 2019 with the sudden death of our beautiful Corinne.
Corinne is lovingly survived by her husband of almost 46 years, Rick Wilhelm and their children: Telly Wilhelm, Blain Wilhelm (Kristina), and Tristan Wilhelm (Jaime Tippett), and her precious grandchildren: Reznor, Keirstlyn, Zoe, Tahvin, and Merijka. She is also survived by her mother Hertha Hartfield, her sister Sonya Mack, and brothers: Doug (Char) Hartfield and Stewart (Darlene) Hartfield as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and in-laws. She was predeceased by her father, Gustav Hartfield.
One of four children, Corinne Helga Hartfield was born on May 16, 1954 in the small farming community of Lampman, SK. At the tender age of 17, the attractive teenager began dating a smitten Rick Wilhelm. She quickly captured his heart, and shortly after their high school graduation, the couple exchanged wedding vows on July 21, 1973. With promising job prospects the newlyweds settled in Fernie, BC and soon welcomed sons Telly (1975) and Blain (1977), completing their family with the arrival of their daughter Tristan (1980).
Corinne was a devoted wife and mother whose life revolved around the needs of her growing family. She was an excellent cook, perogies being one of her specialties. Her kids always looked forward to having their freezer filled with mom's goodies! Together Rick and Corinne enjoyed playing cards, quite often hosting fun-filled evenings of Whist, 500 or Canasta with family and friends.
Life became even more exciting with the arrival of grandchildren. Corinne loved being Grandma and was so proud of each one; beaming whenever she shared stories about their latest antics. Corinne also enjoyed crafting and throughout the years decorated her home with many beautiful creations, included among her favorites, her porcelain dolls.
In 2005, Rick and Corinne relocated to Taber where Corinne worked as a Dietary Aide at the Taber Hospital until her recent retirement. Though struggling with diabetic health concerns for many years, Corinne refused to let the disease define her.
Corinne will be dearly missed. She will be remembered for her mesmerizing brown eyes, her warm, friendly smile and her contagious laughter. Corinne was a loyal friend and confidant who remained positive and upbeat, leaning on her Christian faith during difficult times. Corinne was a friend to many ... a stranger to no one.
Funeral services were held at Cherished Memories "Serenity Chapel" in Fernie, BC on Friday, February 22nd. Memorial donations may be made in Corinne's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
