David Spencer 1932-2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted, caring, loving family man, David Spencer. He was born Nov. 16/ 1932 in Barnsley South Yorkshire England to his parents David and Florence Spencer.

David served in the Army as a Desert Rat (Tank brigade), then went to work in the underground coal mines as his family has done for generations. He immigrated to Canada to do the same thing, and settled in Sparwood BC in 1974 with his wife and 4 children. David worked in the Underground & Open Pit Sparwood Mine till his retirement in 1992.

David was a loving caring man who loved spending time with his family either camping or getting goodies from the pantry for them, which he considered “sneaking”. Through this love & devotion to them they loved him dearly. He also loved dog- sitting and taking Peanut for a walks, as well as dancing with lamp shades on his head. Among his many talents and teachings, from Yorkshire Pudding, with a pinch of this and a dash of that, to the greatest Chip Butty Maker.

David will be dearly missed and forever loved by his wife of 56 years Jean Spencer , 3 daughters: Lynne (Cliff) Sigvaldason of Blairmore, AB, Julie Macintosh (Greg Lutzak) of Tumbler Ridge, BC, and Christine (Ray) Laflamme of Elkford, BC, his son, Chris (Sharon) Spencer of Dawson, BC, 10 grandkids: Steven (Melissa) Radford, Bobbie Radford, Jennifer Shade, Jonathon (Jill) Shade, Jolene (Ryan) Currie, Terry-Ann (Brett) Olson, Ashley and Justine Laflamme, Greg (Natalie) Sigvaldason, and Wendy Sigvaldason, and 9 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Kaylee, Shelby, Rosa-Lynne, Saige, Kylen, Connor, Kyla, and Cynthia as well as 3 brothers, 1 sister, and many nieces and nephews.
