BROWN:

A lifetime resident and well respected businessman, Edward “Ed” Thomas Brown passed away at the Richmond Hospital on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the age of 77 years, reunited once again with his beloved wife Shirley who died on March 11, 2010. Ed was also predeceased by his eldest son and namesake, Eddy Brown, his brother Robert Brown and his sister Dorothy Hawkins.

The Memorial Service was held at the Knox United Church on Wednesday, June 22nd with Jane Clarke officiating. Following the service, Ed was laid to rest at St. Margaret’s Cemetery.

Ed was born in Fernie on March 7, 1934 to parents Edward and Minnie Brown. On July 11, 1960 he married Shirley Baher; a union blessed with the arrival of sons Eddy and Mark. Together Ed and Shirley spent the next 50 years working side by side at the Fernie Meat Market, a family business established by his parents in 1926. Ed collected lard buckets and barbed wire; but his greatest passion was the Meat Market where he enjoyed good conversation and bantering with his regular customers, many who often dropped by just for a chitchat. A taste of Brown’s famous beef jerky or pepperoni quickly converted newcomers to become part of the “regular” clientele where they too were treated with the legendary Brown’s customer service.

Ed will be dearly missed. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to have called him “friend”.

Ed is lovingly survived by his son Mark (Tammy Bristle) and his sister Jean (Archie) Shade as well as several nieces, nephews, wonderful friends, and devoted customers.
