TRASKA:

With family at his side Edward “Eddie” Traska passed away peacefully at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail, BC on January 3, 2011 at the age of 76 years. Ed was born in Fernie on November 26, 1934 to parents Mary and Andrew Traska.

Ed is survived by his wife Florence, two sons: Jason(Jennifer) and James(Tanis), six grandchildren: Chelsie, Brett, Brodie, Taniss, Sydnee and Colton. He held a special place in his heart for his pups: Sassy, Blossom and Poppy. He was predeceased by his parents and his two infant brothers.

Ed was employed as a surveyor with various road construction companies until 1973 when he found employment with Kaiser Resources Ltd. and retired from Westar Mining Ltd. in 1991 when the company went into bankruptcy.

In 1968 Ed married Florence and together they raised two sons: Jason and James. In their early years together, Ed and Florence liked to travel. In 1980 they purchased a lot at Baynes Lake and enjoyed many summers of camping, gardening and spending evenings around the campfire with family and friends. His hobbies included playing darts, camping, fishing, hunting and berry picking. On Friday nights he enjoyed having a few drinks with friends at the Fernie Hotel.

In 2002 Ed survived bladder cancer and months later was diagnosed with kidney disease.

A Prayer Service was held at the Holy Family Parish on January 10, 2011 with Father Bart Van Roijen, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch Office, #222 – 4940 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC V5G 4K6.
