Luzod:

Dr Ernesto Luzod of Sparwood B.C passed away suddenly in Union City California on June 12 2010; he was 82 years old.

Born in the Philippines, Batac Ilocos Norte, October 30 1927, his pre and post medical school education started in Manila. Multiple surgical residencies followed in New York State as well as in Victoria, B.C. In 1966 he came to the Elk Valley as a locum and decided to plant his roots in Sparwood. He was a member of the East Kootenay Medical Society, the BSMA and CMA, as well as the medical examiner for CP Rail over the past 24 years and the coroner for the Elk Valley from 1967 to 1987.

He was predeceased by his parents Juan and Saturnina; his wife Anna Marie Luzod, and siblings Lorenzo, Ariston, Gerardo, Galito, Rizalina, Maria and Anunciacion.

He is survived by his spouse Fortunata C. Convento of Union City California, his children Ernesto Luzod Jr and his wife Susan, Michelle Culver and her husband Rocky, Mary Karen Luzod, Kelly Luzod-Jones and her husband Ryan, and Nina Hamilton and her husband Dana. His Grandchildren Nicole, Nicholas and Cynthia Luzod, Presley and Courtney Culver, Roan Stewart, Hudson and Everson Jones, and Rhett and Neve Hamilton. He is also survived by his siblings Felipe and Josephina Luzod of the Philippines.

Dr. Luzod’s life was his family and his patients. Retiring at the fruitful age of 81 he lived every day with passion for his profession. Always giving of himself not only as a Doctor but as an incredible father and a dear friend to all who crossed his path. His life was nothing short of an incredible inspiration; his dedication to his family and his community was his legacy.

Services will be held on Friday, July 2nd at the Sparwood Recreation Center Curling Rink at 11am. Luncheon to follow.
