HOLLAND:

Esther Anne Holland (nee Jacobs) passed away on January 8th at the age of 97. She was born on April 5th, 1919 in Cavalier, North Dakota to William and Ruby Jacobs. Esther married Fred Holland on December 15, 1943. Esther and Fred moved to Sparwood in 1970 then Esther lived at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie from 2005 until her death.

In her younger days, Esther loved spending time with her family, watching hockey (especially when Gary was playing!) and baseball (especially the Atlanta Braves), playing cards (especially rummy and crib), going on road trips and camping with Fred (including trips throughout B.C. and Alaska) and gardening, growing beautiful indoor and outdoor flowers and plants.

Esther is survived by two sons, Gary (Edie) Holland and Wesley (Helen) Jacobs; six grandchildren, Debbie Thomas, Kristina (David) Owen, Tania (Dan Collins) Holland, Lois Dickson, Myrna (John) Beachy and Jon (Lorelei) Jacobs; great grandchildren Dylan and Aidan Thomas, Elizabeth and Thomas Owen, Aelish Holland-Collins, Ashley (Aaron) Jensen, Matthew and Michael Dickson and Matea and Avaree Jacobs; great-great grandson Dylan Jensen; sister-in-law Ella Reid and brother-in-law Ben (Margo) Holland and many nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by her husband Fred, her parents, her brother Raymond and her grandsons-in-law Austin Thomas and Jack Dickson.

Esther’s family is very grateful to all the staff at Rocky Mountain Village for taking such good care of her over the past twelve years. There will be a private family graveside service at Rivercrest Cemetery in Sparwood. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, BC & Yukon, 1212 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC, V6H 3V2 or Rocky Mountain Village, C/O Recreation Department, 55 Cokato Road, Fernie, BC, V0B 1M4, would be greatly appreciated.
