February 22, 1935 - October 12, 2021
It is with deep sadness that the families of Francesca Aiello announce her passing on October 12, 2021, in her room at Rocky Mountain Village Care Home. Surrounded by family Francesca peacefully made the transition to the other side.
Francesca Fusaro was born on February 22,1935 in Acri, Italy and immigrated to Calgary, Alberta in the sixties to join her brother and sisters who lived there. After ten years she decided to return to Italy, but on being introduced to widower Pietro Aiello plans changed and they were married in September 1975.
Since Pietro's passing in 2008 Francesca could be seen taking long walks around town or going to the golf course to rescue lost golf balls that she would then present to golfers.
Francesca loved children and it was a huge loss for her when she miscarried shortly after marriage. Still, whenever she saw a child, she would stop to say hello and would often give packages of cookies to neighbourhood kids who enjoyed sitting on her lawn and waving to her when she stood at the window.
Francesca truly missed Pietro and filled her days watching programs they enjoyed together and walking, as that was something Pietro also enjoyed. She missed their daily routine of going to the post office, shopping, and visiting friends, but she enjoyed walking and talking with people.
Francesca is survived by Pietro's children that were like her own, Mary and Nick, Rose and Larry, Joe and Lynn, and Rita and her late husband Mike and their families. Also, her Fusaro family of sisters, Annunziata, Gemma, and Lina and Domenic and their families and sister-in-law Ida Fusaro and family.
Also, her sisters-in-law Titina Aiello and Carolina Ammirati. Francesca was particularly fond of her godchildren Teresa and Angela and often spoke of them.
She was predeceased by her husband Pietro (Pete Aiello), her parents Grazia and Pasquale Fusaro, and sister Rosina and husband Antonio in Italy, her brother Tony, brother-in-law Francesco Pellegrino, brother-in-law Fedele Perri, and her niece Maria all of Calgary, Alberta.
A funeral mass celebrated by Father David John will be held at noon on Saturday October 16, at Holy Family Church.
Many Thanks go to Dr. Joel Stimson, who has been incredibly generous with his care of Francesca over recent years, Dr. Rod Geddes, her previous family doctor, doctors and staff at the Elk Valley Hospital Emergency and nursing staff on the floor for their wonderful care.
Rocky Mountain Village staff for the excellent care given to Francesca the past five months, and the Fernie Fire rescue team and Fernie Ambulance Services who were always there to help when Francesca would fall during her walks, and her kind neighbours, especially the late Clayton Smith who she just loved and who would do snow removal and lawn care for her without being asked, and Steve, Michelle, and Ben, thank you all.
The family also wants to thank the many thoughtful people who would often provide rides home when Francesca would go walking and often end up with two heavy bags of groceries that she could barely manage. There are many individuals in Fernie that have been so kind to Francesca over the years to everyone a sincere thank you.
A huge thank you to Father David for his generosity of prayers and time for Francesca while travelling and to Lynda and John Gawryluk, of Cherished Memories thank you for your immense understanding and help during a very sensitive time.
