COMMISSO:
Surrounded by loved ones, 85-year-old Gabriella, wife of the late Francesco Commisso, passed away peacefully at the Elk Valley Hospital on Thursday, August 24, 2017. She was born on August 11, 1932 in Marcedusa, Italy to parents Gaetano and Anna Rotella.
Gabriella is survived by her children: Joe, Vince, Andrew, Pete, and Lina, 7 grandchildren: Linda, Franca, Amanda, Franco, Steven, Frank and Daniella, and 5 great grandchildren: Mya, Sophia, Paisley, Mason, and Braydon. Also left to mourn her passing are sisters Antonietta Prestia, Aurielia Polcino, Mirella DeLuca, and Caterina Scirocco and her brother Gennaro Rotella. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother Pietro Rotella.
A petite lady with a huge heart, Gabriella’s family was first and foremost in her life. With five children and a large extended Italian family, the Commisso household was usually bustling with activity. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and each summer looked forward to their camping adventures. Gabriella was a fantastic gardener who spent hours tending to her meticulous garden, and each year grew an amazing crop of tomatoes and grapes in her hothouse.
Gabriella will be lovingly remembered; her legacy a lasting treasure to those she leaves behind.
Prayers were held at the Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, August 28th. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, August 29th with Father David John, Celebrant. Following the service, Gabriella was laid to rest next to her beloved Francesco at St. Margaret’s Cemetery.
