HALLADAY (1937- 2011):

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Orland Halladay of Sparwood, BC on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the age of 74 years.

Gerald was born on September 11, 1937 to Hayden and Ellen Halladay in Deloraine, Manitoba. He and his beloved Joyce (née Goulding) were married in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, on April 8, 1960 and were further blessed with a family of four children. Gerald gained employment with Finning as a heavy-duty mechanic and demonstrated a rare talent for solving mechanical problems.

A hard-working, honest and generous man, Gerald enjoyed life, recreation and work in the great outdoors. Hunting, camping and wood-gathering were activities that gave him much pleasure. He delighted in helping others who had mechanical problems to solve and did so for free, as a good neighbour and as a hearty member of the Elk Valley community. His true passion was his family - he devoted his adult life to being a loving husband, a wonderful father and a man who cherished his grandchildren.

He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life include his daughter Barbara (Brenda Pennington) Halladay of Lethbridge; his sons, Vern (Roberta) Halladay of Lethbridge; Kelly Halladay of Olds, AB; Terry (Janet) Halladay of Sparwood, B.C.; his grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Cylina and Denica; great grand-daughter Alexis; his sister Evalyn (Jim) FritzHenry; numerous nieces & nephews; in-laws and extended family and friends.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents Hayden and Ellen Halladay and by several siblings.

A Celebration honouring the life of the late Gerald Halladay was held on Friday, November 4, 2011, at 1:00 pm at the Eagles’ Hall (715 Douglas Fir Road), Sparwood, B.C.

Donations will be gratefully accepted in memory of the late Gerald Halladay by the Fraternal Order of Eagles, P.O. Box 286, Sparwood, BC V0B 2G1.
