March 22, 1933 - March 3, 2020
Thursday 3rd March 2020, Gordon, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the Elk Valley Hospital at the age of 86 years. He was born in Michel on March 22, 1933 to parents John and Anne.
Gordon spent a great part of his life as a construction supervisor, first building roads in the Kamloops area and the Okanagan, then he worked on the Duncan, WAC Bennet and High Arrow dams.
In 1968 he moved his family back to the Elk Valley. He helped install the men's camp and his crew built the road to the mine summit. After a few years working in the mine he began his own business servicing the mines.
While serving as Vice President of the Fernie Golf Club Gordon saw the need for a golf course in Sparwood, especially for the youth. Knowing all the "right people" he was able to get financing and find the perfect spot. With machinery donated by the mine and various contractors, and with much volunteer help, under his supervision a beautiful 9-hole golf course was built.
Being a licensed pilot allowed Gordon and Peggy to take many pleasurable trips in their small plane. They also enjoyed the snowbird lifestyle, spending winters in the Southern States.
Gordon is survived by his wife Peggy, sons Michael and Alan (Carrie), 4 grandchildren: Sara, Athena, Kimberley and Laura, 4 great grandchildren: Evangeline (Evie), Cole, Logan and Jayse, and his sister Sharon. He was predeceased by sisters Dorothy and Mary.
