With her husband by her side, Helen Dianne Spencer passed away peacefully at the Rocky Mountain Village on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the age of 70 years.

Helen was an active and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, collecting dolls, tending to her flowerbeds, and taking long walks. Helen also loved to go for leisurely drives, quadding in the back country, or simply going out for coffee. Her grandchildren captured a very special place in her heart, and she especially enjoyed the times they shared together before the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.

Helen is survived by her loving husband Aubrey, her daughter Amanda (Aaron) Smolana with their children Sarah, Damien, and Ashlyn, and her son Charles “Chuck” (Crystal) Spencer with their children Shayden and Rylen, all of Grande Prairie, AB, and sons Harlon Rushton with children Riley, Madison, and Shelby, of Portaupique, N.S., and Kirby (Rhonda) Rushton with son Jason, of Portaupique Mtn., NS. Also left to mourn her passing is her twin sister Evelyn (Donald) White of Toronto, ON, and Minnie Murray (Joe MacLellan) of Truro, N.S. as well as several nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Charles and Bertha (White) Welch, brothers Elwin, Stanley, and Ronald, and sisters Lydia, Hattie, Florence, Muriel and May.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
