Janet Alice Ewanick, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on Monday, August 1, 2016 at the age of 83. She was born on December 19, 1932 in Calgary, AB.
Janet is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Gladys Ewanick of Vernon, BC with their family: Janet’s granddaughter Shannon Ewanick (Adam Warner) of Seattle, WA with great grandchildren Russell and Alexa, and Janet’s grandson Scott Ewanick (Shelby Lynde) of Vernon; and her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Ewanick (Ken Schnick) of Richmond, BC.
She was predeceased by her husband John Ewanick in 2004, her brother Richard Eby, and her parents, William and Marianne Eby.
Janet grew up in rural Alberta. She moved to Fernie with her family in 1949 at the age of 17. This is where she met Johnny, her future husband. Together they raised their two children and made a happy and fulfilling life together. When the children got older she worked in housekeeping at the Fernie Memorial Hospital.
Together Johnny and Janet enjoyed summers camping with their children and later with grandchildren, biking, walking along the dike, huckleberry picking, and family picnics. They also enjoyed many trips to Reno, and loved sharing in conversation with family and friends around their kitchen table, or sitting outside. The Ewanick house was always a welcoming place.
After Johnny passed away, Janet continued to enjoy visiting with family and friends, doing puzzles, attending craft days at the Senior’s Center, Sunday coffee with friends, and playing Scrabble with her “Scrabble Ladies”.
Her fondest memories were camping, visiting children and grandchildren, and the many times the grandchildren stayed for a holiday.
Since the birth of her great grandchildren, Janet loved receiving regular pictures and updates on her computer, and sharing them with friends.
Janet will be lovingly remembered for her warm, friendly smile and gentle disposition. Rest In Peace.
