MOORE:

Jean Moore passed away peacefully at Rocky Mountain Village on November 1st 2011 at the age of 90. She is survived by two daughters, Val Hafke of Fernie, and Penny (Neil) van Blerck of Witbank, South Africa. Also mourning her passing are six grandchildren, Ingrid (Thomas) Bill, Marty(Angie), Nick and Chris Hafke, and Linda and Michael (Santie) van Blerck, as well as five great-grandchildren: Markus and Matthew Bill, Ollie and Katie Hafke and Ivan van Blerck. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Rev. Mervyn Moore.

Jean was born in Middlesbrough, England in 1921, only child of Lily and Charles Keal. She trained as a teacher before marrying Mervyn in 1944. She devoted the next twenty years to raising two daughters and supporting Mervyn in his Anglican ministry. They immigrated to South Africa in 1954, where she threw herself wholeheartedly into parish life in Uitenhage, East London and eventually Johannesburg. There she finally found the opportunity to go back to teaching which she loved. She taught at St Mary’s in Johannesburg until her retirement, and moved to Canada to join Val and Georg in 1994. Fernie welcomed her and showed immense kindness to her as she aged, and the family would like to thank all those wonderful people who helped her and watched out for her and genuinely cared for her as she struggled to adapt to a very different lifestyle in Canada. Thanks also to the caring staff at Rocky Mountain Village who looked after her this past year, and to Rev Trevor Freeman for his practical and spiritual support through this difficult transition.

Funeral service was November 8th at Christ Church Anglican.
