February 16, 1930 - December 29, 2018
It is with great sadness to announce the peaceful passing of Jesse Amano the evening of Saturday December 29th at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie BC after a second brave battle with cancer. At his bedside was one of his many good friends, Penny and Fr. David. Jesse had also battled prostate cancer 10 years ago and was a strong survivor.

Jesse was born February 16, 1930 in the Philippines, 2nd eldest of 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls in total. He began employment as a Public Works labourer and an auto mechanic's apprentice before heading to university in Manila for a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1968.

Jesse moved to Ottawa in 1976 in hopes of a better life in Canada. He soon traveled to Elkford BC and worked as a large engine mechanic with Fording/Teck mines. He was very proud of his career and the people he worked with and had many "stories" and adventures to tell of his past. He retired in 1995 and continued to live life by gardening and traveling.

Jesse was a gentle man and loved nature, wildlife, volunteering in his community and traveling to exotic destinations. He loved corresponding with meticulous hand written letters to family and friends across the globe. He often visited his family back in Ontario, but his heart returned him to BC where he felt he belonged. Jesse was a proud member of the 50+ Club, Knights of Columbus and the Seniors of Elkford. At the age of 88, he continued to be involved passionately with his community and he was a devoted Catholic to the church.

Jesse is cherished and remembered by his loving family in Ottawa and many loyal friends and neighbours in Elkford. Predeceased by his father, Rosaro Amano and his mother, Placida Andrion. Survived by his sisters, Benita and Mila; nephews Rudy (Kim), Ren (Chris), John (Jennifer) and many great nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to all who visited Jesse while in hospital and forever gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Elk Valley Hospital and at Rocky Mountain for their impeccable care towards Jesse.

In memoriam of Jesse, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association and are greatly appreciated.

A Special Mass will be held for Jesse at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Elkford at 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 13th followed by a potluck dinner. People may attend the Mass, just the potluck, or both.
