In Loving Memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Martin Nowik in North Vancouver, BC, on August 28, 2024. He was born and raised in Fernie.

After graduation from Fernie Secondary in 1968, he enrolled at Simon Fraser University and earned his BA in Commerce and Economics. He later earned designations of Certified Management Accountant and Chartered Professional Accountant. After completing his BA, John joined the Canada Revenue Agency and worked for 1 year in Ottawa and 8 years in Edmonton. He then transferred to Vancouver, where he worked for 24 years.

By the time of his retirement in 2012, he was a Senior Business Files Auditor, specialising in mining flow-through shares. Outside of work and school, John had a wide range of interests, including playing accordion and collecting stamps. In his younger years, John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed foraging for mushrooms.

After his retirement, John took pleasure maintaining a small apple orchard in Oliver. In 2017, he suffered a debilitating stroke, after which John worked courageously to adapt to its effects.

John is predeceased by his parents, John and Stefa, brother, Al, and sister, Olga.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; daughters Christina (Mitchell) and Joanna (Sean); grandchildren, Louise and Clive; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in BC, Alberta, Pennsylvania, and Russia.

Charitable contributions in memory of John Nowik can be made to the North Shore Stroke Recovery Centre (https://nssrc.org/).
