August 23, 1962 - October 9, 2019
John was born in Fernie BC on August 23, 1961 to Henry and Patricia Joinson. In his early years he enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting in the area with his siblings and other family. He often mentioned how much he missed fishing with his dad.
As time went on, John enjoyed riding and breaking horses, bull-riding in Grasmere rodeos, boxing, weightlifting and making money in the summers helping ranchers with haying and farming chores.
John attended trade school for welding in Nelson BC and was a volunteer firefighter during his time there. He was working at the Elko sawmill as an "A" level welder when he met his wife-to-be, Donna Craft. They were married in 1986 at the Holy Family Parish. John and Donna were married 33 years and raised 5 children, primarily in the Fernie area. He was a member of various associations such as the Knights of Columbus, the Legion, and Fernie Dart Leagues. As his children grew, John could often be seen in the Coal Creek area with his kids, getting firewood, fishing or hunting.
John battled various health problems over the years and passed away at Kelowna General Hospital on October 9, 2019, with his wife, children and their significant others at his bedside.
John is survived by his wife Donna and their 5 children: Matt (Tasha), James (Maria), Johnathan (Karley), BillyRay (Kelsey) and Ashley Marie; 7 grandchildren: Ethan, Aleana, Grayson, Bryson, Olivia, Kayden and Kassidy, and his mother Patricia Joinson. Also surviving John are siblings: Margie, Henry, Tom, Patrick, Willie and Michael and their families, as well as Uncle Steve Domin and numerous other cousins and relatives.
