John Sangala, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2012 with his family by his side. John was born on December 17, 1922 in Fernie, B.C. He lived an amazing life – he served in the Second World War defending the country he loved as a true Canadian hero. He married his first love Mary, 65 years ago, and together they raised their daughter Debbie.
John was an active member of the Fernie community throughout his life belonging to the Fernie Elks Lodge #81 and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 36. John also had a successful career with the Fernie District Hospital in their maintenance department.
John had two great passions in his life; the love of his family – including his two grandchildren Kirk and Crystal – and his love of the outdoors. He spent many years fishing, hiking and camping in the Fernie back country. His favorite memories were of his many outdoor adventures.
John will be missed by everyone that loved him. He will be remembered as one of the last true gentlemen. John is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Debbie, grandson Kirk and his wife Juli, and granddaughter Crystal.
