McKAY:

Joyce Irene McKay (Nicol) passed away peacefully on June 20, 2010 at the Elk Valley Hospital. Joyce was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan on Sept. 12, 1935 and was predeceased by her father, Andrew Nicol, her mother Kate Nicol, two sisters, Margaret Adie and Ruth Hess as well as her brother-in-law, Jim Armstrong.

She leaves behind four children; Jolene Scarpelli, (John), Jeff McKay (Kathy), Rod McKay (Heidi) and Andrea Goertzen (Craig Horton), nine grandchildren; Laurelle Scarpelli (Ryan Armstrong), Connor, Quinn, Aidan and Brady McKay, Amy and Jackson McKay and Brian and Kyle Goertzen, as well as one great grandchild, Cruz Armstrong. She also leaves behind three sisters; Kay Armstrong, Isabel Bamford (Don) and Janet Kellow (Roy) as well as one brother, Gary Nicol, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and close friends.

Joyce was a strong advocate for human rights, a talented painter, poet and writer. She touched so many lives in so many ways, she will be greatly missed.

We’ll like you for always;

As long as we’re living;

Our mommy you’ll be.”

A service will be held at Cherished Memories Serenity Chapel located at 891 4th Ave. on Saturday, June 26 at 2:00 p.m. Luncheon to follow. Donations can be made in Joyce’s name to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. #300-828 West 8th Ave., Vancouver B.C. V5Z 1E2 or donate on-line at www.alzheimerbc.org.
