The Hamilton family sadly announces the passing of our "little sister", Kathleen (Kate) after a lengthy illness.
Kathleen was born and raised in Fernie, the youngest of five children. After graduation, she studied Early Childhood Education at Mount Royal College. Kathleen spent many years as a teaching assistant to special needs students in the Calgary Catholic School System.
She had one son, Gavin Rae Hamilton. Kathleen, Rae and her life partner, Joe DeGrood, loved camping and exploring the mountains of Alberta, BC and Yukon, picking huckleberries and dirt biking. Kate was also a Boy Scout Leader during Rae's youth, and (we think) the all-time #1 Sales person for "Boy Scout popcorn!"
Everything she did was with enthusiasm and good humor. Kathleen was bright and cheerful, as well as caring and considerate of others. She loved spending every special occasion with her large, loving family.
She leaves behind to remember her, her son Rae, her husband Joe, and her siblings Moric Ruelle, Lisa (Alan) Westhaver, Colin Hamilton and Gavin (Wendi) Hamilton, nine nieces and nephews, 5 great-nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins , and one Aunt.
Kathleen is predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Margaret Hamilton, and her brother-in-law Lorne Ruelle.
At the request of her husband, there will be no service. Kate's family will celebrate her life at a later date.
If so wished, donations may be made in Kathleen's name to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
