Laura Tolliver (nee Servello) passed away at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the age of 94 years.


Laura is survived by several nieces and nephews: Tony Servello, Donna McKenize, Pierre Granato, Lynn Buchanan, Richard Ewing, Jimmy Ewing, Loretta Campbell, Judy Pley, Cheryl Akerly, Mark Servello, and Mike Servello with their families, as well as many good friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Neal Tolliver and by all of her siblings: Tony Servello, Connie Armstrong, Nick Servello, Marel Ewing, Norman Servello, Albert Servello, Louis Servello, Steve Servello, Dahlia Knorr, and Roland Servello.


Laura was born in Fernie on January 14, 1918 to parents Anthony and Pasqualina Servello. She left Fernie at an early age, working as a nanny for several families before starting a career in the catering business in Florida. In 1947 Laura married Neal Tolliver in Florida. She often returned to Fernie in the summer to visit family and friends, and enjoyed picking huckleberries, tending the garden, playing cards, and gathering in the evening for conversation and music. In 2006, Laura moved back to Fernie from Florida. Laura's sense of style and lively spirit will be sadly missed and always remembered by those who loved her.


Funeral Mass was celebrated at Fernie's Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, February 6 with Father Bart Van Roijen, celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were Mark Servello and Mike Servello. Memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC. Arrangements entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Services Ltd.
